Salmon River Conditions 4 Jan 2014
In the Salmon area, the Deadwater ice jam is pretty solid up to Tower Creek. Cold weather in early December brought the jam upstream to between Tower Creek and Morgan Bar, but recent warmer weather has cut it back down to around Tower Creek. The river has been clear of floating ice in several recent days, but ramps have a lot of ice, and are very difficult to use. The river above Tower Creek is mostly open in the faster current, but the slower water, which includes most of the steelhead holding water, is frozen over. We sometimes get out in January afternoons and fish a little ourselves, but I’m in no hurry in these conditions.
