steelhead fishing in Salmon area
Steelhead fishing in the Salmon area was slow in the last half of last week, probably because of wet weather coming in. The river was a little off-color, but not enough to restrict fishing. River temperature was 52 degrees the end of Friday afternoon, 50 on Saturday. Level is slightly above average. We are in the peak of leaf color, with snow on the peaks. It’s a beautiful time to be on the river–though yesterday was a good day to catch up on desk work–rainy, windy, snow line coming down to less than 6000 feet. There seem to be quite a few wild steelhead so far. With the warm water, fish are active, frequently coming out of the water after being hooked.
