steelhead fishing access in Salmon area
The Salmon River near Salmon was ice-free again today. The upper end of the Deadwater ice jam this year was several miles below the usual location–between Tower Creek and Red Bluff instead of between Carmen and Tower Creek. The Tower Creek launch ramp is open, as well as Carmen and the new, temporary, ramp in Salmon. The river is open at the Red Bluff ramp, but there is a serious ice shelf, which will need a machine to open. Ramps are icy, so a long rope is a good idea to avoid putting a vehicle on an inclined, icy, ramp. While it has been a mild winter, we have had a lot of inversion, not a lot of ice-cutting sunshine, so launch ramps and parking areas are very slick.
