Red Bluff boat launch open–1 March 2014

The Fish and Game Department has cleared the ice from the Red Bluff boat ramp north of Salmon. The river was free of floating ice, which surprised me a little, as it was only 15 degrees in late afternoon, snowing all day. A boat was pulling off the river at Red Bluff when I checked the ramp. They were pounding the ice off the oars to get them out of the locks. No fish. But I expect they got to fish every hole they wanted. I’ll wait for a nicer day. The hell of it is that when we get nicer days, as we had earlier in the week, we’ll get the low snow melting and have muddy water. This spring will be short-notice fishing.
