winter steelhead fishing at Salmon

This has been an exceptional winter steelhead season in the Salmon area.   The river has been ice-free most of the winter, outside of a couple of cold snaps.  Most winters fishing is restricted by floating slush as well as long sections of the river completely frozen over.  The river was open and fishable today in the Salmon area.  There aren’t a lot of fishermen out, but those who do put up with mild winter conditions are doing well.  Reports are of good numbers, and good-sized fish.  As a generality, if morning temperature is above 20 degrees, the river will likely be ice-free in this area.
