Steelhead fishing Salmon area 24 March 2013

Last week was cold, with wind, raw days on the river, but with colder weather, snowmelt decreased and the river cleared and cooled. River temperature is in upper 30s, with only a slight amount of color in the river. There are fish around. Yesterday my boat landed three, missed a couple.

We probably have a couple more weeks of fishing in the Salmon area, if the river stays clear. Much of the low snow in the Salmon valley has gone, so we may get lucky.

There seem to be more big fish this year. A F&G biologist told me that a majority of the fish coming into the hatchery are Bs this spring.
