Salmon River steelhead fishing near Salmon, Idaho, 5 April 2013
Today at mid-day at Salmon the river was 47 degrees, visibility about a foot, very little fishing activity. We usually can fish through the first week of April, but lost it this year. For several years there was a hot-spot under the bridge in Salmon at the beginning of April, presumably because smolts had been released from the boat ramp there, but there was no activity there this year. Its probably time to put the fish poles away for a while.
We expect steelhead to return to the Salmon area in mid-October. We will have good trout fishing on our Middle Fork trips in July and August, and smallmouth bass available on the Lower Salmon in September. We are planning a steelhead fishing/chukar hunting trip on the Lower Salmon the second week of October this year.
