Rains have come to the Salmon River
The sky in Salmon River is gray with rain instead of smoke. The fire season is over. The peaks above Salmon are white with snow. The Salmon River has come up a bit with recent rains. Late August was a scramble of low, slow, water, smoke, worry about fire closures. We were lucky enough to skate around the edges of a low-water season without big problems, but it is a relief to have rain, see snow up high, and cooler temperature again. We are done with our long trips now, and I expect to keep this more current now that the pace has slowed a bit–review the past season, and preview next summer. Steelhead will be here in a month, the cottonwoods will be turning yellow, elk will be back for the winter.
