24 October 2013 steelhead fishing in Salmon area

Fishing is picking up, though still slow for this time of year. I spent the week of the 14-18 on the Lower Salmon, on the very lowest end of the Salmon River. The river was a little higher than average for this time of year, but was reasonably clear after the high runoff from the September storm. Fishing was slow.
Yesterday in the Salmon area a large group using nine guided boats caught 15 fish. The river is still a little higher than average, but not much, good water clarity, mid-40s temperature. Beautiful weather, frosty morning, warm afternoon, cottonwoods yellow.
