Spring 2023 Steelhead Fishing Report 3-25-23
This should be the peak weekend for spring steelhead fishing in the Salmon area, but the ramp parking lots are nearly–or totally–empty. The river is 33 degrees in the afternoon and clear. Air temperature is 33 degrees too, with snow squals.
BLM and Fish and Game have opened all the ramps between Salmon and North Fork, though you need a long rope to slide a boat over ice at the 4th of July take-out. The Deadwater ice jam went out on Thursday, March 23, the latest I can remember in the last 40 years. Winter just won’t let go. There is enough snow to create muddy water when we finally do get warm, sunny days.
Next fall will surely be a better run of fish and conditions.
